Karen Hill Tribe silver is one of the most distinctive traditional silver crafts from Northern Thailand. It stands out for its high purity (typically around 98%), fully handmade character, and deep cultural roots.

• Purity: Typically around 98 % (usually 97–99 %, closer to 99 than to 97). This is higher than standard copper-alloyed sterling (92.5 %) and is therefore stamped 925 as the Swiss legal minimum. The higher silver content gives a softer, brighter and whiter, more satiny appearance, makes the metal more malleable for detailed handwork, and tends to tarnish more slowly.
• Texture and “imperfections”: Visible hammer marks, slight variations between supposedly identical beads or charms, organic shapes, and stamped patterns are normal and desirable signs of handwork.
• Motifs: Nature (flowers, leaves, animals), geometric designs, and protective symbols. Many pieces carry cultural or spiritual meaning beyond pure decoration.

Because there is no single standardized hallmark system like Western sterling marks, authenticity rests on a combination of material, technique, and provenance.
